SOFT SKILLS
Here are examples of situational case studies where Pauline Gan's soft skills were required.

1. STRATEGIC PLANNING
I have the ability to grasp large strategic issues.
a. While working as a Business Development Manager at Primetech Electronics (Celestica), I developed strategic partnerships, which accounted for $5m - $20 million per contract. I negotiated costs, pricing, time frame, and services. As a result, I generated an additional 60% of new clients.

b. While working as a Product Marketing role with Future Electronics. I implemented the sales and marketing strategies for $40 million account. Working with/ high profile, blue chip client, and conducted global marketing promotional campaign on industrial trends, technology, and customer portfolios. As a result, I increased sales revenue and market share for the company.

2. ASSERTIVENESS
Being the most junior Strategic Business Analyst, my director made me accountable for $100 million sales, since he has confident in my ability. I analyzed price margins and negotiating costs. As a result, I increased profit by US $50,000 - $200,000 per month in 1998.

3. INITIATION
Being the eldest in the family and leaving home at 18 of age to attend university had led me to take responsibilities, be independent in becoming a self-starter.

Primetech (Celestica) had no previous sales and marketing department. I established sales channels, developed new business via trade shows leads and sales representatives, visited clients as company’s ambassador, presented corporate presentation. When customers visited our manufacturing facilities, I coordinated meetings with quality, engineering, and testing departments. As a result, I increased clientele by 60%.

4. CREATIVITY
I am a problem solver. While working as a Project Manager for an engineering company in Asia, I had to deliver 40 units of high-tech computerized machines with a value of $50,000 each to a government organization. A neighboring company requested to borrow the crane as they had an emergency. I wrote a liability contract for the borrower to sign and investigated the company.

The crane broke the next day and luckily our costs were covered as stated in the contract. I had to hire another crane in replacement. Despite the unexpected problem, we managed to deliver and install the machines on a timely manner.

5. LEADERSHIP
While I was working as the Assistant Product Manager at STTC Manufacturing, I demonstrated my leadership by leading a team of marketers to revamp our promotional campaign. I started with researching the market and identifying the specific segments to target at young adults. I selected POS (Point of Sale) materials with Italian design to sell the Western cultural image of “It’s cool and hip to drink instant Cappuccino”.

I organized a roller-blading contest and had teenagers roller-blading at the supermarkets and car parks delivering product samples. Instead of the traditional way of having serving inside the supermarkets. I created publicity and customer awareness. The work was challenging, and my colleagues had thoroughly enjoyed the marketing campaign. As a result, I augmented revenue and brand awareness for NPD (New Product Development).

6. GROWTH
I am an ongoing learner, as I continuously attend seminars, conferences, and participant in courses.
a. I belong to several Professional membership organizations, such as Software Development Forum, Silicon Valley America Marketing, and Product Management Association.
b. 5-week sales training courses at Future Electronics on Semiconductors, where I graduated with a certificate.
c. 3 day technical training at Primetech Electronics (Celestica) on manufacturing and assembling electronic components, where I scored 94%.
d. Multi-lingual, I had attended night schools to improve communication skills. (French whilst in Montreal, and German whilst in Germany)

7. TEAM BUILDING
I am a team player, since I enjoy sharing and motivating others to improve themselves and to achieve their goals. Friends categorize me as the “Ring leader” as I often come up with adventurous ideas and organize group activities. We share a great time together and have fun as a group.

8. COMMUNICATION
Extensive foreign business cultures have been gained from working and living in 8 different countries globally. Hence, I have been studying people and communication for the last 30 years, which makes me an effective communicator. I am proficient in English, French, German, Mandarin, etc and am PC literate. I conduct follow-ups and keep in contact with my customers and vendors.

I have the ability to teach invisibly. I can communicate in 8 languages via a long distance and in different time zones across the globe.
